The demand for customized and tailor-made products among the general public has never been greater. To meet this demand, the manufacturing industry needs to assemble products in increasingly fragmented volumes, with shorter life cycles, and ensuring the lowest possible sales price. To solve this problem, one key requirement must be met: production flexibility.

“Traditional vibrating bowls don’t meet the new requirements for flexibility.  Flexible feeding systems are an interesting competitive alternative to traditional bowl feeding systems.  Asyril’s flexible part feeders meet current market demands for mass customization and are compatible with Industry 4.0 standards.  At the heart of the feeding system, the SmartSight vision system enhances the automation process with improved speed and accuracy and offers a flexible and intuitive configuration.”

Flexibility: a key challenge in mass customization automation

Asyril SmartSight intelligent vision system
Requirements of a highly efficient vision system for flexible parts feeding

The demand for customized and tailor-made products among the general public has never been greater. To meet this demand, the manufacturing industry needs to assemble products in increasingly fragmented volumes, with shorter life cycles, and ensuring the lowest possible sales price. To solve this problem, one key requirement must be met: production flexibility.

A revolution in part feeding technology

To achieve flexibility in assembly machines, manufacturers are all faced with the same problem: feed more variants of parts within a single automated machine and reduce the time required to change production batch from product “A” to product “B”. The solution: using flexible part feeders with a powerful vision system and reduce implementation costs.

A typical flexible part feeder is made of three interlinked components: an intelligent vibration platform (including a hopper) that separates and orients parts, a vision system that locates the parts and a robot that picks them up. For optimal performance, all three components must interact in an optimal way to guarantee an efficient and reliable feeding process. In this regard, the vision system plays a central role and becomes the heart of the system.

In his newly published White Paper on the Asyril SmartSight vision system, Asyril Product Manager Aymeric Simonin, explains how integrating an intelligent high resolution camera in a flexible feeding system, plays a crucial role in managing complex scenarios and meeting the ever increasing demands for customization and cost reduction.

New: Simultaneously feed 2 parts on 1 feeder

The latest release of the SmartSight Software allows the feeding of 2 different parts on the same platform.
Advantages :
- reduced costs;
- compact integration;
- easy implementation.
